This department educates students to be people who can contribute to the improvement of health and welfare as physical therapists. Physical therapists instruct people with illnesses, injuries or handicaps, or people experiencing pain in their bodies, how to exercise to improve their condition. They instruct people how to prevent injury, as well as instructing handicapped people how to keep their muscles from deteriorating. The Physical Therapy Department curriculum consists of subjects from the areas of (1) Human Sciences and (2) Specialized Subjects. The latter is divided into the (a) Specialized Support course-group, (b) Basic course-group, and (c)Advanced course-group. The curriculum is organized such that students can study stage by stage. In the Specialized Support course-group, students mainly study basic medical courses, such as physical structure and function and types of diseases, in order to understand physical therapy. In this department, we try to educate students to cooperate with other areas of health science and welfare (represented by our Nursing and Social Welfare departments). Also, we want students to be able to communicate and work as a team with all kinds of medical professionals. The Basic course-group teaches the fundamentals of physical therapy. Stage by stage, students study movement therapy and physics therapy, through lectures as well as practical training. At this university especially, subjects have been chosen which can readily be applied in welfare and medical facilities and institutions in the community. First students study Specialized Support courses and Basic courses, and then they study Advanced courses. When studying Advanced courses, students will be able to solve problems and treat patients in actual medical treatment settings. In the Clinical Practical Training course, students start with the basics and study stage by stage over four years. Students can practice physical therapy in actual situations with real patients. The subjects are organized for the students to study therapy as well as how it relates to subjects in other areas. We look forward to meeting students who are keen to learn!
